Well, in Hong-Kong it’s really hard. Especially in the wet markets because loads of tourits/photographers like to go there to snap photos so I guess the people working get angry and frustrated. It’s usually the elder chinese women that hate it, and when I can sense they wouldn’t allow me to take their photograph I try to take it without them noticing.
I guess it’s bad and good at the same time, bad being I’m not getting their permission but good because If I did… the common thing they tend to do is pose and feel more self conscious which ultimately shows in the photograph.
When I do ask for permission by pointing and smiling at my camera and smiling at them, they either wave their hands and shake their heads in disapproval (which happens the most) or smile and allow me to photograph.
